Baltic Aquascaphe GMT MK-II Becomes A True Traveller’s Tool Watch

Baltic reworks its Aquascaphe GMT with a new case, a true GMT movement and 200 metres of water resistance.

The Baltic Aquascaphe GMT MK-II marks a significant evolution following the path established by the Aquascaphe MK2. While retaining the identity of the original GMT, the new model receives a completely reworked case and a new movement that transforms its role from an office GMT into a genuine traveller’s watch.

The most important mechanical change comes with the adoption of the Miyota 9075 GMT movement, replacing the Soprod C125 used by the first generation. The new calibre brings a true GMT complication while also allowing Baltic to lower the price despite the extensive updates.

From Office GMT To Traveller GMT

GMT watches have been a familiar presence since gaining popularity in the 1960s. By combining a fourth hand with a 24-hour scale, they allow two time zones to be followed simultaneously.

The Aquascaphe GMT MK-II takes that concept further. Rather than being designed primarily as an office GMT, it has been conceived as an authentic tool watch for modern globetrotters.

At the heart of this change is the Miyota 9075, an automatic GMT movement with a 42-hour power reserve. Its true GMT architecture allows the local hour hand to be adjusted independently without stopping the seconds hand or disturbing the second time zone.

That functionality makes the watch particularly suited to travel, where adjusting to a new local time should not mean losing track of home time or interrupting the movement.

A Completely Reworked Case

Baltic has entirely redesigned the case for the Aquascaphe GMT MK-II.

Measuring 39.5mm in diameter, the new construction introduces a crown guard, wider lugs and sharper angles. Vertical brushing on top of the lugs further emphasizes the revised geometry, giving the case a more defined and purposeful appearance.

Water resistance has also been increased to 200 metres, reinforcing the model’s tool-watch credentials. Combined with its versatile proportions, the robust construction is intended to make the Aquascaphe GMT MK-II a dependable companion both on the road and away from it.

The case is made from 316L stainless steel and measures 13.8mm thick including the crystal, with a 47mm lug-to-lug measurement and 20mm lug width.

Designed For Legibility

The dial is finished in deep glossy black, creating a strong contrast with the applied Super-LumiNova BGW9 indexes.

These large luminous markers are designed to provide clear reading in different conditions, while the handset has been modernised with faceted and lumed surfaces.

The result is a dial that prioritises immediate legibility without sacrificing the clean proportions of the Aquascaphe design.

At 6 o’clock, a date window has been integrated into the dial. The date disc is colour-matched to the dial, while the finely bevelled aperture maintains the overall symmetry of the composition.

A Sapphire GMT Bezel

The Aquascaphe GMT MK-II is equipped with a bidirectional 24-click bezel featuring a 24-hour scale.

Both the bezel insert and the crystal are made from sapphire, a material chosen for its high resistance to scratches. The bezel therefore provides the functional counterpart to the GMT movement, allowing the second time zone to be read at a glance.

The double-domed sapphire crystal features internal anti-reflective coating, further supporting legibility while maintaining the vintage-inspired character associated with the Aquascaphe collection.

Four Colourways, One Tool-Watch Concept

The Aquascaphe GMT MK-II is introduced in four colourways: red, blue, grey and green.

Across the range, the core architecture remains unchanged, combining the reworked 39.5mm stainless-steel case, black glossy dial, 24-hour bidirectional sapphire bezel and Miyota 9075 true GMT movement.

Baltic offers several bracelet and strap configurations, including a vulcanised FKM rubber sports strap, a steel Beads of Rice bracelet and a steel Flat Link bracelet.

This gives the Aquascaphe GMT MK-II a degree of versatility that matches its purpose. It can be configured as a more rugged travel tool or given a more refined bracelet presence without changing its fundamental character.

A More Capable Aquascaphe GMT

The Aquascaphe GMT MK-II represents a broader evolution of the collection rather than simply a cosmetic update.

The combination of a completely redesigned case, increased 200-metre water resistance and the Miyota 9075 true GMT movement gives the model a more convincing tool-watch identity than its predecessor.

With four colourways and multiple bracelet and strap options, Baltic has created a GMT designed around movement — both the movement of the traveller and the mechanical movement inside the case.

The Aquascaphe GMT MK-II will be presented and made available for sale from September 3, 2026, with prices starting at €850 excluding taxes for the rubber-strap configuration and €915 excluding taxes for the steel bracelet versions.
