NOMOS Metro Ice Blue Brings A New Colour And Calibre To The City
A new metallic ice blue dial meets the hand-wound DUW 4701 and automatic DUW 6101 across three expressions of the modern Metro.
The NOMOS Metro ice blue collection brings a fresh interpretation to one of the Glashütte manufacture’s most distinctive contemporary designs. Inspired by the architecture and constant movement of modern cities, the new ice blue models combine a cool metallic dial with precise typography, carefully measured negative space and mechanical innovations developed in-house by NOMOS Glashütte.
The launch introduces three related watches: the new Metro date power reserve ice blue, the Metro neomatik 41 Update ice blue, and the existing white Metro date power reserve, which now receives the brand-new hand-wound DUW 4701 calibre. Together, they show two different approaches to date indication and winding while maintaining the design language established by Berlin-based designer Mark Braun.

NOMOS Metro Ice Blue: A Reflection Of The Modern City
NOMOS describes the new ice blue colour as a reflection of contemporary urban architecture. Much like glass and steel facades that change appearance throughout the day, the metallic dial shifts subtly according to the surrounding light, moving from cool light blue towards an almost white appearance.

The effect is particularly well suited to the Metro design. The dial relies heavily on negative space, with small dots marking the hours and minutes and a restrained minute track that places a single dot at each minute. Rather than filling the surface with information, the design gives every element enough room to remain immediately legible.
On the Metro date power reserve ice blue, the metallic effect is created through a galvanized and lacquered dial. Blue and white dot indexes mark the hours and minutes, while the minute numerals are rendered in grey. The three-colour power reserve indicator introduces white, light blue and teal into the composition without disturbing its restrained character.
The ice blue dial is also available on the Metro neomatik 41 Update, where the larger 40.5mm case provides a different interpretation of the same visual language.

Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue And The New DUW 4701
The most important technical development of the launch is arguably hidden beneath the refined appearance of the Metro date power reserve ice blue. This is the first NOMOS watch to feature the new manually wound DUW 4701, a manufacture calibre combining a patented quick-set date mechanism with a power reserve indicator.
The movement provides up to 52 hours of power reserve and measures just 2.8mm in height. With a diameter of 32.1mm, it makes efficient use of the 37mm stainless steel case while keeping the overall watch slim at just 8mm.

Through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement reveals the finishing associated with NOMOS Glashütte, including Glashütte ribbing, perlage, tempered blue screws and the skeletonized balance cock. The movement also features the NOMOS swing system, the proprietary escapement that first appeared in the original Metro date power reserve in 2014.
That original model represented an important point in NOMOS’s technical development. It was the first NOMOS watch to feature the NOMOS swing system, marking a move towards greater independence in the production of one of the most important components of a mechanical movement.
The new DUW 4701 therefore continues a technical story that began with the original Metro rather than simply introducing another movement to an existing case.

Metro Neomatik 41 Update Ice Blue
The second new ice blue expression takes the Metro design in a more automatic direction. The Metro neomatik 41 Update ice blue combines the new colour with NOMOS’s distinctive ring date, presenting the entire month around the perimeter of the dial.

Two blue markers indicate the current date, while the remaining dates form a continuous ring around the dial. White hour dots and blue minute dots maintain the characteristic Metro layout, with the numerals remaining deliberately muted in grey.
At 40.5mm, this version is considerably larger than the 37mm Metro date power reserve. However, the watch remains relatively slim at just 9.1mm thanks to the in-house DUW 6101 automatic calibre, which measures 3.6mm in height.
The movement provides up to 50 hours of power reserve and incorporates the NOMOS neomatik date mechanism with bidirectional quick correction. It also features the NOMOS swing system, a blue balance spring, a balance bridge secured on both sides and a Glashütte three-quarter plate.
The automatic movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, where NOMOS applies its characteristic finishing, including Glashütte ribbing, perlage, tempered blue screws and gold engravings.

A Different Take On The Date
Although both new watches carry the ice blue dial, they interpret the Metro concept differently. The Metro date power reserve combines a traditional hand-wound movement with a compact 37mm case and a date display, while the Metro neomatik 41 Update uses automatic winding and a larger 40.5mm case to accommodate the ring date.
This difference is especially noticeable in the way the dials use their available space. The date power reserve model remains relatively restrained, with its power reserve indicator positioned asymmetrically as one of the defining characteristics of the Metro family. The neomatik 41 Update instead turns the date into a major visual element, surrounding the dial with a complete calendar ring.
Both approaches remain recognisably Metro, but they give the same basic design language two distinct personalities.

The White Metro Returns With DUW 4701
The new hand-wound DUW 4701 is not exclusive to the ice blue model. NOMOS is also introducing the calibre in the original white Metro date power reserve, bringing the latest mechanical development to the established version of the watch.

This model retains the 37mm stainless steel case and white-silver-plated dial, together with the asymmetrical power reserve indicator and date display. Its black oxidized hands and red seconds hand provide a sharper contrast than the ice blue version, while the black Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap reinforces the understated character of the watch.
The white model therefore provides a useful point of comparison. The ice blue version introduces a new visual identity, while the original white dial demonstrates how the same new calibre can be integrated into the established Metro design without changing its fundamental character.

Mark Braun’s Metro
The Metro collection was created by Berlin-based product designer Mark Braun, who has worked with NOMOS Glashütte since 2014. His approach is particularly visible in the way Metro combines geometric precision with deliberate irregularity.
The asymmetrical power reserve indicator of the original Metro date power reserve became one of the defining details of the family. Rather than treating symmetry as an absolute requirement, the design uses imbalance to create visual tension while maintaining clarity.
Today, the Metro family comprises 16 different models and has received several major design awards, including the iF Design Award, Red Dot Award and German Design Award.
The new ice blue versions continue that philosophy without attempting to reinvent the design. Instead, NOMOS uses colour, proportion and mechanical development to give the Metro a new contemporary expression.

Three Metros, One Urban Language
The three watches introduced or updated for 2026 demonstrate how far the Metro design can be taken without losing its identity. The Metro date power reserve ice blue combines the new metallic colour with the debut of the DUW 4701, while the Metro neomatik 41 Update ice blue brings the same visual treatment to the automatic ring-date platform. The white Metro date power reserve meanwhile receives the same new hand-wound calibre, extending the technical update beyond the new colourway.
Together, they reinforce what has always made Metro distinctive: a restrained approach to information, an architectural sense of proportion and mechanical solutions that are integrated into the design rather than simply added to it.
The result is a collection that looks firmly contemporary while remaining closely connected to the technical and design foundations established by NOMOS Glashütte over the past decade.
