ALTO ART 02: A New Expression Of The Maison’s Design Language

Two years of development culminate in a more restrained architecture, a new manufacture movement and ALTO’s first permanent collection.

Introducing ALTO ART 02, a watch that marks a significant transition for the young Maison. Where ART 01 established the brand’s conceptual foundations, ART 02 distills those ideas into a more essential and universal form. It is not simply a continuation of the first creation, but the point at which ALTO’s design language begins to take on a more recognizable signature.

The project represents the culmination of two years of development and opens a new chapter for the Maison. ART 02 also inaugurates ALTO’s first permanent collection, giving the architectural principles established with ART 01 a more restrained and wearable expression.

From Concept To Signature

Since joining ALTO as Creative Director in September 2024, Raphaël Abeillon has continued developing the design principles behind the Maison. After a decade shaping watch design at Cartier, Abeillon approached ART 02 with the same architectural philosophy established by ART 01, while deliberately reducing its proportions to create a more universal character.

The result is a watch in which the case and movement were conceived together from the beginning. Rather than treating the calibre as a separate mechanical component, ALTO developed the A02 specifically to complement the geometry of the case. This approach follows the philosophy first established with the A01 calibre, allowing the mechanics to exist entirely in service of the overall aesthetic.

The design is defined by a Grade 5 titanium construction, used consistently across the case, bracelet and movement plate. The material has become a signature for ALTO, combining low weight with strength and wearing comfort while reinforcing the technical character of the watch.

At 42.3mm long, 36mm wide and 10.2mm thick, ART 02 adopts noticeably restrained proportions. Its satin-finished titanium case is complemented by a curved and bevelled sapphire crystal, whose hemispherical inner profile adds depth to the anthracite dial without compromising the architectural clarity of the design.

The dial itself is made from microblasted brass and finished in anthracite. A flange integrated directly into the case incorporates the hour markers and a discreet minute track, creating a more intuitive reading of the time. Refined, skeletonized hands continue the emphasis on visual lightness while maintaining legibility.

A New Manufacture Movement

Behind ART 02 is the new A02 manufacture calibre, developed and manufactured in collaboration with Cercle des Horlogers specifically for this model. The self-winding mechanical movement uses a micro-rotor and operates at a high frequency of 5 Hz, equivalent to 36,000 vibrations per hour.

Despite its compact 3.6mm thickness, the A02 provides a 50-hour power reserve. Its architecture combines a Grade 5 titanium plate with satin-finished brass bridges and polished bevels, creating a deliberate contrast between technical materials and traditional finishing techniques.

The micro-rotor is made from rhodium-plated Reconit® 18 and receives microblasted, circular-brushed and engraved finishing. Through the sapphire caseback, the complete movement remains visible, allowing the architecture and finishing of the calibre to become part of the watch’s visual identity.

One detail is particularly distinctive. As with every ALTO creation, the seconds hand rotates counterclockwise. The unusual configuration has become a technical signature of the Maison and gives ART 02 another element that separates it from conventional mechanical watches.

ALTO’s First Integrated Bracelet

ART 02 also introduces the first metal bracelet in ALTO’s history. Developed exclusively for the watch and constructed entirely from Grade 5 titanium, the bracelet was designed as an extension of the case rather than as a separate accessory.

Each link features multiple satin-brushed surfaces oriented in different directions. There are no polished surfaces; instead, the interaction between the brushed finishes creates the bracelet’s visual brilliance while preserving the architectural character of the watch.

Its slender links, articulation and progressive taper have been engineered around freedom of movement and comfort. The bracelet gradually tapers across four links, with carefully calibrated spacing allowing it to follow the wrist naturally while maintaining the visual tension that defines ART 02.

The double-folding clasp incorporates an on-the-fly micro-adjustment system, with 2 + 2mm of adjustment distributed on either side. An integrated quick-release mechanism also allows the bracelet to be exchanged without tools for a leather or rubber strap, giving ART 02 different expressions while retaining the integrity of its original design.

A More Essential ALTO

With ART 02, ALTO moves beyond the role of establishing a design philosophy and begins defining a lasting horological identity. The combination of a new case, an integrated titanium bracelet and a purpose-built manufacture movement makes the watch a cohesive exercise in architecture, mechanics and ergonomics.

More restrained than its predecessor, ART 02 demonstrates how ALTO’s original design language can evolve without losing its defining characteristics. It is the Maison’s first permanent collection piece, and perhaps more importantly, a clear indication of where its horological identity is heading.

First deliveries of the ALTO ART 02 are scheduled to begin in November 2026. The watch is priced at €16,113, including taxes in Portugal, positioning ART 02 firmly within the independent high-end watchmaking segment while introducing ALTO’s first permanent collection.
