Hattori” in Tokyo’s Ginza district, Seiko has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation while preserving traditional craftsmanship.

From producing Japan’s first wristwatch in 1913 to introducing groundbreaking technologies such as the first Japanese chronograph, the first dive watch, and the revolutionary Quartz Astron in 1969, Seiko has shaped modern horology through continuous evolution.

The Presage Classic Series now welcomes two new limited editions created to honor the brand’s 145th anniversary, each reflecting a different facet of Japanese artistry.

Arita Porcelain Dial: A Masterpiece of Japanese Ceramics

The highlight of the Seiko Presage 145th Anniversary edition is the introduction of a cobalt blue Arita porcelain dial, a first for the Presage collection in this specific color expression.

Arita porcelain is one of Japan’s most respected ceramic traditions, dating back to the early 17th century. For this project, Seiko collaborated with master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi and artisan Toshiaki Kawaguchi, who oversee production in a historic workshop established in 1830.

Each dial undergoes a complex multi-stage process involving precise molding, glazing, and high-temperature firing. The cobalt blue glaze is particularly challenging to control, requiring careful calibration to ensure consistency and depth without obscuring the intricate radial pattern beneath the surface.

The porcelain material itself has been specially reinforced to achieve durability levels more than four times higher than traditional ceramics, ensuring suitability for wristwatch applications.

The result is a dial that combines visual depth, artisanal heritage, and technical innovation in a single surface.

Alongside the porcelain edition, Seiko introduces a second model inspired by traditional Japanese silk craftsmanship.

The dial features a finely textured surface designed to replicate the subtle weave of silk fabric, finished in a refined shironeri white tone. Historically associated with purity and new beginnings, this shade gives the watch a serene and elegant aesthetic.

The minimalist structure is enhanced by gently curved hands and indices, which follow the natural contour of the dial surface. Blue accents inspired by Seiko Blue introduce contrast and reinforce the connection to the brand’s identity.
