Longines Legend Diver 59 Returns as a Faithful Tribute to the 1959 Original
A new 42mm heritage diver combining vintage design, COSC-certified precision, and modern ISO 6425 performance.
The Longines Legend Diver collection expands for 2026 with the introduction of the new Longines Legend Diver 59, a heritage-inspired diving watch that pays tribute to the original 1959 reference while integrating modern technical upgrades and chronometer-certified performance.
Blending vintage aesthetics with contemporary watchmaking standards, the new Longines Legend Diver 59 retains the unmistakable design language that has defined the collection for more than six decades. Featuring dual crowns, an internal rotating bezel, and a new Milanese mesh bracelet, the watch preserves the spirit of the original while introducing updated engineering throughout.
A Historic Diving Watch Reimagined
The Longines Legend Diver occupies a unique place in the history of dive watches. First introduced in 1959, the model became instantly recognizable thanks to its internal rotating bezel controlled by a second crown at 2 o’clock — an innovation originally patented by Longines in 1936.

Unlike traditional external bezels exposed to impacts and accidental movement, the internal bezel system kept the timing scale protected beneath the crystal while improving durability underwater.
The new Longines Legend Diver 59 remains exceptionally faithful to that original concept. Its 42 mm stainless steel case mirrors the proportions of the historical reference while maintaining the clean symmetry and balanced profile that made the original so distinctive.

Vintage Design with Modern Refinement
The watch features a black grained dial with strong contrast and exceptional legibility.
Raised Arabic numerals and white indexes are coated with “Light Old Radium” Super-LumiNova®, recreating the warm vintage appearance of aged lume while preserving modern low-light performance.

The rhodium-plated arrow hands receive the same luminous treatment, while the luminescent tip on the seconds hand acts as a functional diving safety indicator, confirming the movement is operating even in darkness.
Protecting the dial is a domed sapphire crystal with black metallic coating and multi-layer anti-reflective treatment on both sides, reinforcing the vintage-inspired aesthetic while improving visibility.

A New Milanese Mesh Bracelet
One of the most significant additions to the 2026 model is the introduction of a refined stainless steel Milanese mesh bracelet.
Designed for enhanced flexibility and comfort, the bracelet gives the watch a softer and more elegant wrist presence while remaining highly functional for daily wear.
The bracelet features a double-folding safety clasp with a micro-adjustment system and push-button opening mechanism, combining technical practicality with understated elegance.

Longines also includes an additional black rubber “tropic” style strap, reinforcing the watch’s diving identity and versatility.

ISO 6425 Certified Diver and COSC Chronometer
While the aesthetics remain deeply vintage, the technical specifications are entirely modern. The Longines Legend Diver 59 is fully ISO 6425 certified as a professional diving watch and offers water resistance up to 30 bar, equivalent to 300 meters.
At its core is the exclusive Longines calibre L888.6 automatic movement. The movement features a silicon balance spring and advanced anti-magnetic components capable of resisting magnetic fields up to ten times greater than ISO 764 standards. It also delivers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
The fully assembled watch is officially chronometer-certified by COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres), guaranteeing high precision under real-world conditions.

A Legacy Rooted in Underwater Exploration
Longines has been involved in water-resistant watchmaking since the early 20th century. During the 1940s, the brand collaborated with the British Hydrographic Institute to develop some of the first wristwatches designed specifically for Royal Navy divers.
By the late 1950s, as recreational diving became increasingly popular, Longines introduced purpose-built diving instruments including the Nautilus Skin Diver and eventually the original Legend Diver in 1959.
The internal rotating bezel system became one of the defining innovations of the era and later inspired countless dive watch designs across the industry.
