A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Tourbillon Honeygold: A Sculptural Return in Rare Honeygold

A 50-piece limited edition combining Honeygold®, a stop-seconds tourbillon, and some of the most refined finishing in German haute horlogerie.

A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Tourbillon Honeygold – a refined reinterpretation of one of its most distinctive rectangular timepieces. Limited to just 50 pieces, this new edition brings together architectural design, mechanical precision, and exceptional artisanal finishing in a single statement piece. Rather than simply revisiting an existing model, this release reinforces Lange’s core identity: uncompromising precision expressed through sculptural watchmaking.

Honeygold® and the Power of Contrast

At the heart of the A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret Tourbillon Honeygold lies Lange’s exclusive 750 Honeygold® alloy, a proprietary material developed in-house and known for its warm, distinctive tone between yellow and rose gold, as well as its increased hardness compared to traditional gold alloys.

Both the case and dial are crafted from this rare material, giving the watch a unified yet powerful visual presence. This warm metallic glow is contrasted by a black-rhodiumed dial structure, creating strong depth and a striking three-dimensional effect.

The result is a design that feels both modern and timeless, combining visual warmth with technical sharpness.

A Sculptural Dial Crafted In-House

The dial is one of the most complex elements of the watch, entirely manufactured within the Lange workshops.

It is composed of three sections: the main dial and two subsidiary dials for the small seconds and the UP/DOWN power reserve indicator. Instead of being printed, all frames, scales, and inscriptions are carved directly into the material, forming raised relief elements of just 0.15 mm in height.

After this precision engraving process, the dial is finished with black rhodium coating. The raised elements are then carefully hand-polished, gradually revealing the underlying Honeygold® beneath the dark surface.

Finally, applied Roman numerals, diamond-shaped hour markers, and the outsize date frame are individually integrated. The entire process takes several weeks and demands extreme precision at every stage.

The Stop-Seconds Tourbillon: A Technical Milestone

Visible through the aperture at 6 o’clock is one of Lange’s most important modern innovations: the tourbillon with stop-seconds mechanism.

Originally introduced in 2008, this patented system allows the tourbillon cage to be completely stopped using a dedicated arresting spring, regardless of the balance wheel’s position. This enables precise one-second time setting — a feature that was long considered nearly impossible in traditional tourbillon construction.

This innovation transforms the tourbillon from a purely visual complication into a fully practical precision instrument.

The upper bridge and cage are finished in black polish, one of the most demanding decorative techniques in haute horlogerie, where surfaces are manually polished until they appear perfectly black or mirror-bright depending on the light angle.

Calibre L042.1: Architecture Built for the Case

Through the sapphire crystal caseback, the manually wound calibre L042.1 reveals its full mechanical architecture.

The movement is composed of 370 parts, including 84 dedicated to the tourbillon assembly alone, which weighs approximately one quarter of a gram. A twin barrel system provides an impressive 120-hour power reserve, while the balance operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.

Unlike adapted round calibres, the L042.1 is a true form movement, specifically designed to match the rectangular geometry of the Cabaret case.

Traditional Lange finishing techniques are fully present: a German silver three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing, hand-engraved bridges, screwed gold chatons, blued screws, and solarised wheels.
