Seiko Prospex 145th Anniversary

Seiko Prospex Celebrates 145 Years with Two Limited Edition Dive Watches Featuring Seiko Blue Accents

Two contrasting interpretations of Seiko’s diving heritage, defined by functional design and distinctive blue bezel detailing.

Seiko Prospex 145th Anniversary with two new limited-edition Prospex dive watches, each featuring a distinctive blue bezel accent that pays tribute to the brand’s heritage and its iconic Seiko Blue identity.

Founded in 1881 by Kintaro Hattori in Tokyo’s Ginza district, Seiko has built a legacy defined by innovation and precision. From producing Japan’s first wristwatch in 1913 to pioneering milestones such as the country’s first chronograph, its first dive watch, and the revolutionary Quartz Astron in 1969, Seiko has consistently shaped modern horology through technological evolution.

The 1960s also introduced Seiko Blue, a signature colour that has since become a lasting symbol of the brand’s pioneering spirit.

A Heritage Diver Reimagined from 1965

The first model in this anniversary Prospex release is inspired by Seiko’s historic 1965 diver, a cornerstone of the brand’s diving heritage and one of the most important early professional dive watches from Japan.

Powered by the automatic Calibre 6R55, this model combines historical design language with modern performance standards. It offers water resistance up to 300 metres, making it suitable for professional scuba diving, alongside a robust 72-hour power reserve.

The design features a silver-white dial with excellent legibility, paired with blue accents on the aluminium bezel insert and seconds hand, directly referencing Seiko Blue.

A key functional highlight is the bracelet’s fine-adjustment system, allowing up to 15 mm of extension in six 2.5 mm increments, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit even under changing pressure conditions underwater.

A Sculptural Samurai-Inspired Dive Watch

The second limited edition is powered by the automatic Calibre 4R35 and introduces a more aggressive and sculptural design language.

Its case architecture features sharply faceted surfaces inspired by the iconic Seiko diver nicknamed “Samurai” by fans, reflecting a blade-like geometric aesthetic that enhances its strong wrist presence.

This model is distinguished by a bi-colour bezel insert, with the first 15 minutes highlighted in grey and the remaining scale in blue, reinforcing both functionality and visual identity.

The dial, hands, and indices follow a similarly angular design approach, creating a cohesive and bold diver aesthetic. With water resistance up to 200 metres, it remains a capable tool watch for recreational diving and everyday use.

Two Interpretations of the Same Diving Legacy

While both watches share the same commemorative purpose, they represent two different expressions of Seiko’s diving heritage.

The 1965-inspired model (Seiko Prospex Diver’s: HBB005) focuses on historical authenticity and professional-grade functionality, while the Samurai-inspired edition (Seiko Prospex Diver’s: HBB001) emphasizes modern design expression and sculptural form.

Together, they highlight the evolution of Seiko Prospex as a collection built on reliability, innovation, and a deep connection to the ocean.

Both models will be released as limited editions in June 2026.
