Angelus Instrument de Mesures Introduced

A Triple-Scale Chronograph Designed as a True Measurement Instrument

Angelus continues its exploration of functional chronographs with the introduction of the new Instrument de Mesures, a timepiece that brings together three of the most useful chronograph scales ever developed: a telemeter, a pulsometer, and a tachymeter.

Produced in two limited editions of just 25 pieces each, the Angelus Instrument de Mesures combines vintage-inspired aesthetics with modern manufacturing techniques and an in-house chronograph movement. More importantly, it stays true to Angelus’ historical philosophy of creating watches designed not merely to tell time, but to measure the world around us.

By uniting the functions of several previous releases into a single watch, Angelus has created what may be its most complete instrument chronograph to date.

A Natural Evolution of Angelus’ Instrument Collection

Over the past few years, Angelus has steadily revisited some of the practical complications that helped establish its reputation among collectors.

The Chronographe Médical introduced in 2023 brought back the pulsometer. The Instrument de Vitesse of 2024 focused on speed measurement through a tachymeter scale. In 2025, the Chronographe Télémètre earned the Chronograph Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève by reinterpreting the telemeter chronograph.

The new Angelus Instrument de Mesures combines all three concepts into a single watch. Rather than treating these scales as decorative vintage references, Angelus designed the watch as a genuine measuring tool capable of calculating distances, heart rate, and average speeds through the operation of a single monopusher chronograph.

Two Distinct Limited Editions

The Instrument de Mesures is available in two dial configurations, each limited to 25 pieces.

The first features an ebony-black dial with blue, orange, and cream scales arranged across its various levels. The second adopts an ivory-white dial accented by blue, red, and green markings.

Both versions feature a finely grained dial surface paired with classic syringe hands inspired by Angelus chronographs of the 1960s.

The color coding is not merely aesthetic. It serves an important functional purpose, helping the wearer quickly distinguish between the different measurement scales while preserving legibility.

A Dial Built Around Functionality

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Angelus Instrument de Mesures is its highly complex dial architecture.

Integrating three separate scales alongside a conventional minute track required Angelus to rethink the entire dial structure. The solution was a three-dimensional construction consisting of four distinct sections.

Angelus

At the outermost edge sits the telemeter scale, used to measure the distance between the wearer and a visible event that produces sound, such as lightning or an explosion.

The angled intermediate section houses the pulsometer, allowing the wearer to calculate heart rate after counting 15 beats. Closest to the hands is a spiral tachymeter scale capable of measuring average speeds ranging from 20 km/h to 500 km/h.

To create the required depth and visual hierarchy, Angelus employed an innovative manufacturing process involving direct laser cutting into the dial material. The result is a display where information appears layered and highly organized despite the large amount of data presented.

The construction naturally guides the eye toward the most important information while preserving excellent readability.

A Chronograph Designed for Real Measurements

Operating the Angelus Instrument de Mesures is remarkably straightforward.

The monopusher integrated into the crown controls the entire chronograph sequence. A first press starts the chronograph, a second press stops it, and a third press resets it.

Depending on the scale being used, the central chronograph seconds hand immediately indicates the measured result.

Whether calculating the distance of a thunderstorm, determining a pulse rate, or measuring average speed over one kilometre, the watch remains intuitive despite its extensive functionality.

This practical approach reflects Angelus’ long-standing commitment to creating watches with genuine purpose rather than merely decorative complications.

A Compact Vintage-Inspired Case

The Angelus Instrument de Mesures is housed in a stainless-steel case measuring 39mm in diameter and only 9.25mm thick.

The dimensions feel particularly refreshing in an era dominated by larger chronographs, while the twisted lugs and slim bezel create an elegant profile that recalls mid-century tool watches.

A box-shaped sapphire crystal further enhances the vintage character while offering a generous opening onto the highly detailed dial beneath.

Available with either a black or tobacco calfskin strap, the watch balances classic proportions with contemporary finishing.

Powered by the In-House Calibre A5000

Inside beats the Angelus manufacture Calibre A5000, a hand-wound monopusher chronograph movement developed entirely in-house.

Measuring just 4.2mm thick, the calibre delivers a 42-hour power reserve while operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz).

The movement follows traditional chronograph architecture, incorporating both a column wheel and a horizontal clutch—features highly prized by enthusiasts for their mechanical refinement and historical authenticity.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement presents a striking contrast between its 3N gold-finished bridges and palladium-treated chronograph components.

The finishing includes Côtes de Genève, polished bevels, circular graining, and polished screws, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship associated with modern Angelus creations.
