AMIDA Expands The Digitrend Collection With New OSII Black And NASA Tribute Editions
The Retro-Futuristic Driver’s Watch Returns With Fresh Designs Inspired By Space Exploration And Contemporary Innovation
AMIDA continues its remarkable revival with the introduction of two new additions to its iconic Digitrend collection: the AMIDA Digitrend OSII Black and the Digitrend NASA Tribute. Building upon the success of the Digitrend’s 2024 comeback, the latest releases further develop one of watchmaking’s most distinctive and unconventional designs while staying true to the spirit of the original 1976 model.
Combining retro-futuristic aesthetics with modern Swiss engineering, the new Digitrend references celebrate both AMIDA’s heritage and humanity’s enduring fascination with the future.

The Return Of A Cult Classic
Originally founded in Grenchen, Switzerland, in 1925 before relocating to Montreux in 1949, AMIDA built its reputation by embracing innovation and contemporary design trends.
The AMIDA Digitrend first appeared in 1976 and immediately stood apart from traditional watchmaking conventions. Instead of a conventional dial, the watch featured a vertical time display integrated into a wedge-shaped case inspired by sports cars and spacecraft dashboards. Its futuristic appearance perfectly captured the optimism and technological ambition of the 1970s.
Designed with drivers in mind, the Digitrend allowed wearers to read the time without turning their wrist away from the road, embodying the principle that form should follow function.
Nearly fifty years later, the Digitrend remains just as unconventional as it was upon its debut.

The Ingenious Light Reflecting Display System
At the heart of every Digitrend lies one of the most fascinating display systems in modern watchmaking.
Rather than displaying the time directly on a traditional dial, the watch uses AMIDA’s patented LRD (Light Reflecting Display) technology. The movement operates horizontally within the case, while an optical-grade sapphire prism reflects the hour and minute discs vertically toward the wearer.
The system functions much like a submarine periscope, redirecting the display through a carefully engineered prism that also magnifies the numerals for improved legibility.
Patented in 1973, the LRD remains one of the most distinctive mechanical display solutions ever developed and continues to define the Digitrend’s unique identity.

Digitrend OSII Black
The new Digitrend OSII Black represents the most technically advanced execution of the concept to date.

The watch features a 316L stainless steel case with satin-brushed and polished surfaces, complemented by an open sapphire upper section that offers a contemporary interpretation of the Digitrend’s signature silhouette.
Measuring 39.6mm wide, 39mm long, and 15.6mm thick, the case maintains the compact yet bold proportions that have become synonymous with the collection.

Inside beats the Soprod P024 automatic movement paired with an in-house developed jumping-hour module consisting of nine mechanical components and six screws. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), incorporates 25 jewels, and delivers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.
The display retains the iconic dual-disc arrangement for hours and minutes, projected through the sapphire prism system.

Digitrend NASA Tribute
Inspired by one of humanity’s most important eras of exploration, the AMIDA Digitrend NASA Tribute pays homage to the pioneering spirit of the Space Age.

The model combines a black DLC-coated 316L stainless steel case with a striking white ceramic upper shell, creating a visual contrast reminiscent of historic spacecraft and astronaut equipment.
Like the OSII Black, the case measures 39.6mm by 39mm with a thickness of 15.6mm and offers water resistance to 50 metres.
Power comes from the Swiss-made Soprod Newton P092 automatic movement, which operates at 4Hz, features 23 jewels, and provides an extended power reserve of approximately 44 hours.
A dedicated bi-material strap combining leather and technical fabric further reinforces the watch’s aerospace-inspired character.

Mechanical Innovation Beneath The Surface
Beyond their unconventional displays, both new Digitrend models showcase AMIDA’s commitment to mechanical watchmaking.
The proprietary jumping-hour module is developed in-house and works alongside the Soprod automatic calibres to power the dual-disc display system. The movements feature refined finishing, including sandblasted surfaces, circular graining, skeletonised oscillating weights, and rhodium-plated elements.
The result is a combination of technical ingenuity and visual originality rarely found in contemporary watchmaking.
