Patek Philippe World Time Minute Repeater 5531G Brings Milan To The Dial

Two white-gold limited editions combine World Time and a local-time minute repeater with hand-crafted cloisonné enamel views of Milan.

For the Watch Art Grand Exhibition Milan 2026, Patek Philippe returns to one of its most distinctive modern grand complications with two new versions of the World Time Minute Repeater 5531G. References 5531G-012 and 5531G-013 combine a World Time display with a minute repeater capable of striking the local time of the city selected at 12 o’clock, while their hand-crafted enamel dials turn the centre of the watch into a miniature representation of Milan.

Both references are limited to just five pieces, with the main difference between them found in the Grand Feu cloisonné enamel dial. The Patek Philippe 5531G-012 presents Milan by day, with its streets represented in a sunlit composition, while the Patek Philippe 5531G-013 depicts the city at night, with artificial lighting giving the miniature map a completely different character.

Two Views Of Milan

At the centre of each dial, an 18K gold plate provides the foundation for the Grand Feu cloisonné enamel artwork. Fine gold wires define the different elements of the city centre before coloured enamel is applied and fired, creating a miniature map with considerable depth and detail.

Around the Milanese scene sits the World Time display, with 24 cities representing the world’s time zones. The city names are presented in Italian, while Milan is highlighted in red as the location celebrated by this special edition. A 24-hour ring surrounds the dial and indicates whether it is day or night in each of the 24 time zones.

The characteristic hands of the 5531 are crafted in white gold. The openworked hour hand takes inspiration from the Southern Cross constellation, while the lozenge-shaped minute hand provides a distinctive counterpoint to the detailed enamelled centre.

A Minute Repeater That Knows The Local Time

The complexity of the 5531 lies not only in its World Time display, but in the way that function interacts with the minute repeater. Unlike a conventional repeater that simply strikes the time of the watch itself, the patented mechanism of the 5531 allows it to chime the local time corresponding to the city selected at 12 o’clock.

A pusher at 2 o’clock advances the selected time zone in one-hour increments. Once the desired city is positioned at 12 o’clock, the slide on the left side of the case activates the minute repeater, which strikes the corresponding local time on two classic gongs.

The gongs are attached directly to the caseband, helping transmit the sound through the case. This arrangement is housed inside a relatively compact 40.2mm case, making the 5531 a particularly sophisticated combination of world time functionality and acoustic complication.

A Calatrava Case With Hand Guilloché

The white-gold case measures 40.2mm in diameter and 11.49mm in thickness, with openworked, skeletonised lugs that give the otherwise classical profile a more intricate appearance. The caseband and the slide piece are both decorated with a hand-guilloché hobnail pattern, also known as Clous de Paris.

Patek Philippe supplies two interchangeable casebacks. One is crafted entirely from white gold, while the other incorporates sapphire crystal, allowing a view of the movement. Both carry the inscription “Patek Philippe Milano 2026”.

The watch is protected against humidity and dust but is not water-resistant, an expected characteristic of a highly complex timepiece with such extensive handcrafting.

Calibre R 27 HU

Inside, the two Milan editions are powered by the self-winding Calibre R 27 HU. Measuring 32mm in diameter and 8.5mm thick, the movement contains 452 components and 45 jewels, combining the World Time mechanism with the local-time minute repeater.

Winding is provided by an off-centre 22K gold micro-rotor decorated with guilloché. The movement operates at 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour, or 3Hz, and offers a power reserve between 43 and 48 hours.

The movement is also equipped with Patek Philippe’s Gyromax® balance and Spiromax® balance spring and carries the Patek Philippe Seal, reflecting the level of finishing and technical requirements associated with the manufacture’s most complicated watches.

Two Limited Editions For Milan 2026

The two references share the same mechanical architecture and case construction, but their different representations of Milan give each watch a distinct personality. The 5531G-012 is the daytime interpretation, paired with a light brown grained calfskin strap with hand stitching, while the 5531G-013 represents Milan at night and is fitted with a midnight-blue strap with red stitching.

Both are limited to five individually numbered pieces and feature a white-gold fold-over clasp. Together, they bring one of Patek Philippe’s most unusual modern combinations of complications into a distinctly Milanese setting, using miniature enamel work to connect the technical sophistication of the 5531 with the city hosting Watch Art™ Grand Exhibition 2026.
