Longines Spirit Pilot And Spirit Pilot Flyback Bring Aviation Heritage Into Blue

Four new blue references expand the Spirit collection, pairing Longines’ aviation-inspired design with COSC-certified mechanical movements and modern everyday versatility.

Longines is expanding its Spirit collection for 2026 with four new timepieces: two versions of the Spirit Pilot and two Spirit Pilot Flyback chronographs. All four share a distinctive matt blue aesthetic, while offering a choice between stainless-steel bracelets with micro-adjustable folding clasps and Swiss-made blue rubber straps. On the Flyback models, the blue theme continues through a ceramic bezel insert with a countdown timer.

The new watches build on Longines’ long association with aviation, a history that reaches back nearly a century and includes figures such as Amelia Earhart, Elinor Smith and Richard Byrd. From transatlantic flights to polar expeditions, the brand developed precision instruments designed for demanding environments. Introduced in 2020, the Spirit collection brings that heritage into a contemporary watchmaking context, combining the visual language of historical pilot watches with modern mechanical technology.

Longines Spirit Pilot

The three-hand Longines Spirit Pilot receives a new blue interpretation with a 39mm stainless-steel case designed around improved ergonomics. Its matt blue dial provides a strong backdrop for the silvered hands and applied rhodium-plated Arabic numerals, all treated with Super-LumiNova® for clear reading in different lighting conditions. A refined minute track reinforces the instrument-like character of the watch without making the dial feel overly technical.

Inside is Longines’ exclusive self-winding calibre L888.4, equipped with a silicon balance spring and components designed to provide magnetic resistance up to ten times greater than the ISO 764 standard. The COSC-certified chronometer offers up to 72 hours of power reserve, while the screw-in crown and screw-down case back help provide water resistance to 100 metres.

The Spirit Pilot is available either on a stainless-steel bracelet with a double safety folding clasp and micro-adjustment, or on a Swiss-made blue rubber strap with a pin buckle and interchangeability system. Both options reinforce the watch’s balance between aviation-inspired functionality and everyday wearability.

Spirit Pilot Flyback

The Spirit Pilot Flyback takes the same blue aesthetic into a more technically focused chronograph. Measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 13.4mm thick, the stainless-steel case houses a bidirectional rotating bezel with a blue ceramic insert and countdown timer. The bezel combines Arabic numerals, baton indexes and a triangle reference mark, all treated with Super-LumiNova®.

The matt blue dial retains the applied Arabic numerals and rhodium-plated hands of the Spirit Pilot, while introducing a central 60-second chronograph hand and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. Small seconds sit at 9 o’clock. The result remains recognisably part of the Spirit family while adding the additional information expected from a pilot chronograph.

At its heart is the hand-wound Longines-exclusive calibre L792.4, a COSC-certified column-wheel chronograph movement with flyback function. The calibre uses a silicon balance spring and offers up to 68 hours of power reserve. Through the transparent screw-down case back, its mechanical architecture can be viewed while the watch maintains water resistance to 100 metres.

A Flyback With Aviation Roots

The Flyback function carries particular historical significance for Longines. The brand pioneered flyback chronograph technology in the early 1930s and filed its groundbreaking flyback chronograph patent in 1935. The new Spirit Pilot Flyback therefore connects a contemporary mechanical movement with a technical feature that has been part of Longines’ aviation-related watchmaking history for decades.

The blue ceramic countdown bezel adds another functional layer to the design, while the combination of Super-LumiNova®, high-contrast numerals and a box-shaped sapphire crystal maintains the practical character associated with pilot watches.

Precision For The Modern Pilot

Although the two models approach the Spirit concept differently, precision remains central to both. The Spirit Pilot uses an automatic calibre with up to 72 hours of autonomy, while the Spirit Pilot Flyback uses a hand-wound column-wheel chronograph with up to 68 hours. Both movements are COSC-certified and use silicon balance springs, combining traditional mechanical construction with modern resistance to magnetic fields.

With their blue dials, matching strap options and restrained case dimensions, these four new references bring a more contemporary colour treatment to the Spirit collection without moving away from the aviation-inspired identity that defines it.
