Chronoswiss Neo Digiteur Pastel Code Brings Colour To Mechanical Time

The handless mechanical icon returns in Rose, Mint and Sky, combining a distinctive digital display with a softer pastel aesthetic.

Chronoswiss is giving one of its most unconventional creations a new visual identity with the Neo Digiteur Pastel Code. Available in three limited editions — Rose, Mint and Sky — the latest interpretation brings pastel colours to a watch that remains anything but conventional.

Each version is limited to just 99 pieces, retaining the architectural case and mechanical digital display that define the Neo Digiteur while introducing a lighter and more playful character. The result is a combination of soft colours and serious mechanical watchmaking, built around a concept that has always challenged traditional ideas of how time should be displayed.

The Watch Without Hands

The story of the Neo Digiteur goes back to 2005, when Chronoswiss founder Gerd-Rüdiger Lang introduced the original Digiteur. Rather than using conventional hands, the watch displayed time through mechanical discs and windows, creating a digital appearance powered entirely by gears and mechanical energy.

Two decades later, Chronoswiss revived the concept for the modern era with the Neo Digiteur. The fundamental idea remains unchanged: there are no traditional hands, yet the indication of time remains entirely mechanical.

The display combines a jumping hour at 12 o’clock, sweeping minutes in the centre and sweeping seconds through a horizontal window at 6 o’clock. Together, these indications create what Chronoswiss describes as a mechanical digital regulator — a digital-looking display with no electronics behind it.

Pastel, But Never Soft

The Chronoswiss Neo Digiteur Pastel Code editions introduce a very different atmosphere. The sharp rectangular architecture remains, but the dials now adopt three pastel tones: Rose, Mint and Sky.

The Rose version introduces a warm light pink, while Mint uses a fresh pastel green and Sky brings a soft blue to the collection. Against the technical geometry of the case and the unusual display, the colours create an intentional contrast that makes the mechanical architecture feel even more unexpected.

The dial surfaces receive their matte yet lively appearance through a special sandblasting technique followed by a lacquer treatment. This process adds depth to the colours while preserving the clean visual character of the display.

Three colours therefore create three different personalities, but the underlying mechanical concept remains identical.

The Shape Of A Digital Icon

The Neo Digiteur’s rectangular case is one of its defining characteristics. Made from stainless steel, its tailored proportions retain the spirit of the original Digiteur while giving the modern version a sharper and more sculptural presence.

Measuring 48mm by 30mm and only 9.7mm thick, the case features a pronounced barrel-shaped profile developed by the Chronoswiss design team at Atelier Lucerne. Assertive lines and polished edges interact with sandblasted and satin-brushed surfaces, creating contrast across the geometry.

A horizontal sandblasted section on the side adds another layer of visual texture, while the crown reinterprets Chronoswiss’ traditional onion shape. Its underside is flattened to improve ergonomics and maintain the visual coherence of the case.

The result is a watch that looks distinctly contemporary while retaining a clear connection to Chronoswiss’ historical design language.

Mechanical Digital Time

Inside the Neo Digiteur Pastel Code beats the hand-wound Chronoswiss Caliber C.85757. The calibre operates at 3 Hz and provides approximately 48 hours of power reserve, while a proprietary in-house module manages the energy demands of the jumping-hour mechanism.

The movement drives the three-part display while maintaining the entirely mechanical character of the watch. The jumping hour requires a controlled release of energy, while the minute and second discs progress smoothly across their respective indications.

The calibre itself measures 23.3mm in diameter and 2.5mm in height, with an additional 2.5mm attributed to the proprietary module. It incorporates 19 jewels, a Glucydur three-legged balance and Nivarox I balance spring, with fine adjustment via an eccentric cam and Incabloc shock protection.

For the Pastel Code editions, Chronoswiss moves away from the hand-guilloché decoration used on the earlier anniversary editions. Instead, the movement receives a full Côtes de Genève finish, reinforcing the contemporary character of the collection.

The shaped sapphire crystal caseback remains, however, offering a visual reference to the rectangular Fleurier movements used in the original Digiteur of 2005.

Not Retro. Re-Coded.

The Neo Digiteur Pastel Code does not attempt to reproduce the past. Instead, it takes one of Chronoswiss’ most distinctive concepts and gives it a new visual language.

The rectangular case, handless mechanical display and unconventional architecture remain at the centre of the design, while Rose, Mint and Sky introduce a softer colour palette that changes the character without altering the fundamental identity.

Limited to 99 pieces per colour, the three editions demonstrate that mechanical watchmaking can remain technically serious while still being playful, expressive and unmistakably different.
