Breitling Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II

Breitling Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II: A Meteorite Tribute to Space History

A limited-edition return of the first Swiss wristwatch worn in space, now with a galaxy-blue meteorite dial.

The Breitling Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Artemis II celebrates one of the most important milestones in horological space history. In 1962, astronaut Scott Carpenter asked Breitling to create a special Navitimer with a 24-hour dial for his orbital mission aboard the Aurora 7 spacecraft. The result became the first Swiss wristwatch worn in space.

More than six decades later, Breitling revisits that legacy with a new limited edition of 450 pieces, now featuring a striking galaxy-blue meteorite dial. Each watch brings an actual piece of the cosmos to the wrist.

A Legend Born for Space

On May 24, 1962, Scott Carpenter orbited Earth three times wearing his custom Navitimer. The astronaut already knew the aviation chronograph from flight training and trusted the functionality of its circular slide rule.

For use in orbit, Carpenter needed something different. Since the sun rises and sets roughly every 90 minutes in space, distinguishing day from night becomes difficult. Breitling’s answer was a 24-hour display, allowing astronauts to maintain clear mission-control time.

That purpose-built watch became the Navitimer Cosmonaute, one of the most historically significant space watches ever made.

Artemis II Inspiration

The new Cosmonaute Artemis II pays tribute both to Carpenter’s original mission and to the future of human exploration through NASA’s Artemis program.

Produced in only 450 pieces, the watch features engravings reading “Artemis II” and “One of 450.” The Artemis II mission logo also appears on the sapphire caseback.

Breitling CEO Georges Kern summarized the concept perfectly: bringing material from the cosmos into a watch designed for space reflects the same curiosity that continues to drive exploration today.

A Unique Galaxy-Blue Meteorite Dial

The most striking feature of the release is its meteorite dial. Cut from extraterrestrial material composed mainly of iron and nickel, each dial reveals a natural Widmanstätten pattern when treated.

No two dials are identical, making every example unique.

Breitling finishes the meteorite in a deep galaxy-blue tone, paired with a black slide rule, red chronograph seconds hand and subtle red accents. It is one of the most visually compelling Cosmonaute models ever produced.

True Navitimer DNA

Despite the new cosmic styling, this remains a true Navitimer at heart. The watch retains all the signature elements collectors expect: the circular slide rule bezel, classic AOPA wings logo and tri-compax chronograph layout. The key difference remains the 24-hour dial, which continues to set the Cosmonaute apart from standard Navitimer references.

The 41 mm stainless steel case keeps balanced vintage-inspired proportions while offering modern presence on the wrist.

Breitling Manufacture Caliber B02

Inside is the hand-wound Breitling Manufacture Caliber B02, a COSC-certified chronometer movement based on the respected B01 platform.

It offers approximately 66 hours of power reserve, beats at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and uses a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch for precise operation.

For many collectors, the manual-wind architecture adds further charm, connecting the wearer directly to the historical spirit of the original 1962 Cosmonaute.
