Hublot Classic Fusion Balloon Dog By Jeff Koons Turns Time Into Art
Hublot and Jeff Koons transform the iconic Balloon Dog into a sculptural timepiece where contemporary art meets haute horlogerie.
Some collaborations between watchmakers and artists simply place an artwork on a dial. The new Hublot Classic Fusion Balloon Dog by Jeff Koons takes a very different approach. Instead of treating the watch as a canvas, Hublot has re-engineered the Classic Fusion around the inflated forms, curves and visual tension of Koons’ iconic Balloon Dog, turning the entire watch into a three-dimensional interpretation of the sculpture.
Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog, created between 1994 and 2000 as part of his Celebration series, takes the familiar shape of a balloon animal and transforms it into something permanent and monumental. That contrast between something playful and temporary and something precise and enduring sits at the heart of the collaboration, creating a natural connection with Hublot’s own approach to materials, construction and contemporary design.

When The Classic Fusion Becomes A Sculpture
The challenge for Hublot was not simply to reproduce the Balloon Dog on the surface of an existing Classic Fusion. The architecture of the watch itself had to change. Traditionally known for its relatively sleek and flat profile, the 42mm Classic Fusion has been extensively reworked with domed surfaces, convex lines and inflated geometries designed to create the visual impression of internal air pressure.
That idea continues across almost every visible element. The sapphire crystal and titanium screws receive rounded, domed profiles, while the dial adopts a convex, almost padded construction. The case follows the same sculptural language, extending through the metallic leather and rubber strap and even into the attachment points. Rather than having a single decorative reference to Koons’ sculpture, the entire watch speaks the same visual language.
Several details make the connection particularly obvious. The crown is inspired by a balloon’s inflation valve and combines moulded rubber with aluminium, while a flexible decorative “balloon tail” appears at 10:30. The seconds hand features a Balloon Dog-shaped counterweight, and the inflated Super-LumiNova indexes and hands continue the same playful interpretation after dark.

Three Interpretations Of Balloon Dog
Hublot is offering the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog in three distinct executions, each limited to 200 pieces. The first uses mirror-polished stainless steel, while the other two are crafted from polished anodized aluminium in vibrant red and blue. The choice of aluminium is particularly appropriate for the coloured versions, as the material allows Hublot to reproduce the saturated tones associated with Koons’ sculptures.
The red and blue editions carry the same sculptural architecture but introduce their respective colours across the case, bezel, crown and strap details. The silver version instead embraces the reflective character associated with Koons’ mirrored Balloon Dog, using polished stainless steel alongside a rhodium-plated dial and grey accents. Each version therefore approaches the same concept through a slightly different material and colour language.
The straps continue the inflated aesthetic rather than stepping away from it. The red and blue versions use a rubber base with a metallic-coloured leather insert featuring the same padded effect, while the silver edition combines grey rubber with a metallic silver polymer insert. The deployant buckles have also been given an inflated design to complete the visual continuity.

A Manufacture Movement With A Playful Rotor
Despite its sculptural appearance, the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog remains a mechanical watch at its core. It is powered by Hublot’s HUB1710 self-winding manufacture movement, with anthracite ruthenium-treated bridges and main plate, a date display at 3 o’clock and a polished rhodium-plated oscillating weight designed with an inflated effect.

The movement operates at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, and provides a 50-hour power reserve. It contains 185 components and 27 jewels, while the transparent sapphire crystal allows the sculptural architecture of the case to be complemented by a view of the movement inside.
The result is an unusual balance between technical watchmaking and contemporary sculpture. The mechanical movement remains serious in its construction, but almost every visible detail has been adapted to reinforce the personality of the Balloon Dog, including the rotor, which echoes the rounded volumes of the exterior.

Wearable Art From Nyon
The Classic Fusion Balloon Dog was conceived, developed and assembled at Hublot’s Manufacture in Nyon, continuing the brand’s long-standing philosophy of experimentation with materials and unconventional forms. Since its founding in 1980, Hublot has repeatedly explored the relationship between traditional watchmaking and new materials, from its original gold-and-rubber concept to the Big Bang and Classic Fusion collections.

The collaboration also extends beyond the watch itself. Each piece is presented in Balloon Dog-inspired packaging, including an inflated dog sculpture rendered in a chromed finish matching the corresponding watch. The packaging therefore becomes another part of the same conversation between contemporary art and horology.
Limited to 200 pieces per colourway, the Hublot Classic Fusion Balloon Dog by Jeff Koons will be available through selected Hublot points of sale and will also be presented in selected galleries. Prices are CHF 20,800, EUR 24,600, USD 25,100 and GBP 19,700, depending on market. Hublot also includes its 5+5 warranty programme, extending coverage to up to ten years.
With the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog, Hublot has not simply put a famous sculpture on a watch. It has attempted to translate the physical sensation of an inflated object into the architecture of a mechanical timepiece, from the curved crystal to the case, crown, hands and even the movement. It is a collaboration where the distinction between sculpture and watch becomes deliberately difficult to draw.
