Roger Dubuis Excalibur Lady Of The Lake Hawthorn: A Floral Interpretation Of Viviane
Inspired by the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legend, Roger Dubuis’ new feminine creation combines rose gold, diamonds and three-dimensional floral elements to capture Viviane’s delicate yet protective character.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Lady of the Lake Hawthorn continues the Maison’s exploration of Viviane, the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legend. This new feminine creation draws inspiration from the hawthorn, a symbol of nature, protection and delicate strength, bringing its floral character to life through a combination of rose gold, diamonds, white mother-of-pearl and red sapphires.
Housed in a 36mm rose gold case, the watch brings together an elaborate floral composition, precious materials and the manufacture’s mechanical expertise. Its three-dimensional dial features white mother-of-pearl hawthorn flowers, red sapphire berries and a diamond-set central disc, creating a decorative landscape that reflects the fairy’s connection to nature.

Viviane And The Symbolism Of Hawthorn
In Arthurian legend, Viviane is portrayed as the powerful and mysterious Lady of the Lake. Her story begins in the Brocéliande Forest, a place where the visible and invisible worlds meet. She is the figure who places Excalibur in Arthur’s hands, helping shape the king’s destiny. After learning magic from Merlin, Viviane eventually surpasses her teacher, reflecting her independence and influence.
Roger Dubuis has previously explored different aspects of this character through the Sovereign Grey and Sylvan Green editions. While those creations highlighted her role as a strategist and her mysterious nature, the Hawthorn edition focuses on another side of Viviane: her connection to the natural world and her protective character.
The hawthorn becomes the central symbol of this interpretation. Despite its delicate appearance, the plant is known for its strength and its ability to provide shelter. Its thorns create a natural boundary, echoing Viviane’s role as a guardian between different worlds: the human and the magical, the forest and the water, love and power, protection and imprisonment.

A Three-Dimensional Floral Dial
The dial is the defining feature of the Excalibur Lady of the Lake Hawthorn. Built across several levels, its composition combines a mother-of-pearl base, sculpted floral elements and precious stones.
White mother-of-pearl flowers represent the hawthorn blossoms, with polished gold spheres forming the stamens and a diamond at the centre of each flower. The berries are represented by red sapphires, adding a vivid contrast to the rose gold and pale mother-of-pearl surfaces.
At the centre, a 750/1000 rose gold disc is set with diamonds, surrounded by a mother-of-pearl ring. The two-sided silver-plated flange frames the composition, while the three-dimensional rose gold indexes are filled with luminescent material.
The small seconds display introduces another distinctive detail. Instead of a conventional hand, a mother-of-pearl hawthorn flower is placed on the display disc. Its asymmetrical, three-dimensional construction requires careful control of balance and inertia to ensure reliable operation.
Rose gold hour and minute hands, with faceted surfaces, complete the display. The bezel’s volume and the different finishes across the dial reinforce the theatrical character of the design, while the flange combines a snail-pattern decoration on its upper surface with a matt finish on its inclined side.
The seasonal transformation of the hawthorn also informs the design. Its flowers open in spring before giving way to berries, which turn scarlet in autumn. This transition reflects the changing power of nature and the different facets of Viviane’s character.

A Rose Gold Case Shaped Like A Jewel
The Excalibur Lady of the Lake Hawthorn is housed in a 36mm 750/1000 rose gold case, measuring 9.85mm in thickness. Its design combines polished and satin-brushed surfaces, creating contrasts that highlight the shape and precious character of the case.
An inset ring set with diamonds extends across the case body towards the crown. The polished angles contrast with the matt appearance of the brushed surfaces, while the crown features the Roger Dubuis logo beneath a transparent protective lacquer.
The fluted bezel is also set with diamonds, continuing the precious character of the design. Two inclined lugs connect the case to the strap, with each lug set with four diamonds.
Completing the watch is a deep red alligator leather strap with a pearled effect, secured by a rose gold pin buckle. The combination of the red strap, rose gold case and floral dial reinforces the warm colour palette of this edition.
Water resistance is rated at 3 BAR, equivalent to 30 metres.

The Automatic RD830 Calibre
Behind the decorative exterior, the Excalibur Lady of the Lake Hawthorn houses the automatic RD830 calibre. Visible through the transparent sapphire caseback, the movement comprises 183 components and 27 jewels, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz.
The movement offers a 48-hour power reserve and displays the hours, minutes and small seconds. It is equipped with a 22K pink gold rotor, while its finishing includes NAC-coated bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève and a main plate featuring snailing.
The RD830 calibre reflects Roger Dubuis’ approach to feminine watchmaking, combining a highly decorative exterior with a mechanical movement finished according to the Maison’s Haute Horlogerie standards.

A New Interpretation Of The Lady Of The Lake
With the Excalibur Lady of the Lake Hawthorn, Roger Dubuis adds another interpretation of Viviane to its collection of feminine creations inspired by Arthurian legend.
Where Sovereign Grey represented the strength, courage and independence of the knightess, and Sylvan Green evoked the mysteries of her magic through green mother-of-pearl, Hawthorn focuses on her relationship with nature and her gentle yet protective character.
Through its three-dimensional floral dial, rose gold construction and automatic movement, the new creation brings together jewellery-inspired craftsmanship and mechanical watchmaking in a distinctive interpretation of the Lady of the Lake.
