Formex Essence Ceramica Dark Matter Redshift: Stealth Meets Racing Spirit
A black-gold meteorite dial, a matte ceramic case and vivid red accents give Formex’s latest Essence Ceramica a darker, more motorsport-inspired identity.
The Formex Essence Ceramica Dark Matter Redshift introduces a new interpretation of the brand’s full-ceramic sports watch, combining the natural complexity of a genuine meteorite dial with a predominantly sandblasted black ceramic case and bracelet. Red details across the display add a sporting contrast, bringing a fresh character to a collection already known for its focus on materials, engineering and ergonomics.
Unveiled on 16 October 2026 at the Windup Watch Fair in New York City, the Dark Matter Redshift builds on the original Essence Ceramica introduced in March 2025 and the subsequent Dark Matter edition. Rather than completely redesigning the watch, Formex has focused on the interaction between surface finishes, dial colour and the distinctive texture of meteorite.
The result is a darker, more understated watch with a clear connection to the brand’s motorsport-inspired identity.

A Full-Ceramic Case With Subtle Contrast
The 41mm case is made from zirconium oxide ceramic, a material valued for its hardness, lightweight construction and resistance to everyday wear. The Dark Matter Redshift gives it a predominantly sandblasted finish, creating a fine, matte texture that absorbs light and makes fingerprints less noticeable.
This restrained surface is contrasted by diamond-polished bevels and a newly refined lower bezel facet. The latter creates a narrow reflective ring around the lower edge of the bezel, rather than relying on extensive polished surfaces. The side bevel of the otherwise sandblasted crown receives the same treatment, introducing small flashes of light without disrupting the watch’s dark appearance.
The case retains Formex’s patented Case Suspension System, designed to absorb shocks and improve comfort on the wrist. A Grade 2 titanium movement container sits within the ceramic construction, while a screw-down crown helps provide water resistance to 100 metres.
Measuring 41mm in diameter, 11.2mm in height and 46.2mm from lug to lug, the watch combines substantial material presence with relatively compact proportions. The case weighs approximately 56 grams on its own, while the complete watch weighs around 137 grams on the ceramic bracelet.

A Genuine Meteorite Dial With Red Accents
The dial is the defining feature of the Dark Matter Redshift. Formex uses solid Muonionalusta iron meteorite, a material that travelled through space before reaching Earth in northern Scandinavia. Its distinctive Widmanstätten pattern is formed by the slow cooling of iron-nickel material over millions of years.
Each dial is precision-cut and etched to reveal this naturally occurring crystalline structure. Formex then applies an exceptionally thin black-gold galvanic coating, less than one micron thick, giving the surface a deep anthracite-to-near-black appearance with subtle metallic highlights. Because the pattern is naturally formed, every dial has its own individual character.
The use of solid meteorite also allows Formex to solder the dial feet directly to the material, rather than attaching a thin meteorite slice to a brass base. This construction makes it possible to machine the brand’s bevelled date window at six o’clock directly into the dial, adding depth while keeping the date legible from different viewing angles.
Gunmetal-finished applied hour markers and hands are filled with BGW9 Super-LumiNova for visibility in low light. Red FORMEX and ESSENCE CHRONOMETER lettering, matching chapter-ring markings and a vivid central seconds hand introduce the edition’s racing-inspired details.
The name Redshift refers to the astronomical phenomenon in which light shifts towards longer, redder wavelengths. Here, the reference to space is paired with red accents that connect the meteorite dial to Formex’s motorsport roots.

Sellita SW200-2 Power+ With COSC Certification
Inside the case is the Swiss-made Sellita SW200-2 Power+ automatic movement, replacing the Soprod Newton P092 used in the previous Essence Ceramica Dark Matter. The updated calibre delivers a power reserve of up to 65 hours, providing more time off the wrist before the watch needs to be wound again through wear or manual intervention.
The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4Hz, and is certified by the COSC, the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. According to the press information, the certification process involves 15 days of testing in five positions and at three temperatures, with qualifying movements achieving an average daily rate between −4 and +6 seconds.
The SW200-2 Power+ also features revisions to the gear train, winding system, regulating mechanism and shock protection. These updates are intended to improve everyday efficiency and robustness while retaining the familiar architecture of a Swiss automatic movement.
Its functions include central hours, minutes and seconds, along with a date display at six o’clock, hacking seconds and quick date correction.

Ceramic Bracelet And On-The-Fly Adjustment
The Dark Matter Redshift is supplied with a solid-link zirconium oxide ceramic bracelet, finished predominantly with the same sandblasted texture as the case. It tapers from 22mm at the lugs to 20mm at the clasp and uses removable pin-and-tube links.
Its defining practical feature is Formex’s micro-adjustable ceramic clasp. Integrated into the full-ceramic bracelet, the patented system provides 5mm of adjustment in four 1.25mm increments. The fit can be changed on the wrist, without tools and without opening the clasp.
The bracelet and additional straps can also be exchanged using a quick-release system. Optional rubber, nylon and Italian leather straps are available separately and use Formex’s carbon-fibre composite deployant clasp, which provides up to 7mm of gradual on-the-fly adjustment.
These features reflect the broader Essence philosophy: the materials and design are distinctive, but ergonomics and practical daily use remain important parts of the package.

Limited Production And Pricing
The Formex Essence Ceramica Dark Matter Redshift launches on 16 October 2026 at the Windup Watch Fair in New York City. Production is limited to 100 pieces annually, with the inaugural series individually numbered from 001 to 100.
The watch is priced at CHF 3,500 / US$4,450 / €4,190 / £3,550 on the full ceramic bracelet. It will be available through the Formex online boutique and selected authorised retailers, with the first shipments expected to begin at the end of November 2026.
The Dark Matter Redshift does not rely on colour alone to distinguish itself. Its appeal lies in the combination of genuine meteorite, carefully controlled ceramic finishing and the contrast of red details against a nearly black dial. With a COSC-certified movement, 100-metre water resistance and a practical micro-adjustable ceramic clasp, it brings together material experimentation and everyday functionality in a more assertive interpretation of the Essence Ceramica.
