Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop: The Boldest Watch Collaboration of 2026
A bold Swiss collaboration that reimagines the Royal Oak as a playful new way to wear time.
After days of speculation, teaser campaigns, and endless social media rumors, the new Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop collection arrives not as a simple Royal Oak-inspired wristwatch, but as an entirely new concept built around pocket watches, wearable accessories, and playful experimentation.

Instead of creating an affordable Bioceramic Royal Oak for the wrist, Audemars Piguet and Swatch decided to reinterpret the legendary Royal Oak through the lens of Pop Art and the original Swatch POP watches from the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The result is one of the most unusual and creative watch collaborations released in recent years.
What Is the Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop?
The Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop is a collection of eight Swiss-made Bioceramic pocket watches inspired by two iconic creations from both brands: the Royal Oak introduced by Audemars Piguet in 1972 and the playful Swatch POP concept that encouraged unconventional ways of wearing watches.
Rather than remaining attached to the wrist, the Royal Pop is designed to be worn in multiple ways. Each watch can be carried as a pocket watch, worn around the neck using the included calfskin lanyard, attached to a bag, or transformed into a desk clock using a removable stand included with the watch.

This experimental approach allows the collection to feel much more creative than previous Swatch collaborations. The goal was clearly not to reproduce the Royal Oak experience directly, but instead to reinterpret its design language in a more playful and artistic way.
Despite this unconventional format, the Royal Pop still preserves many of the Royal Oak’s defining visual elements. The octagonal bezel with eight visible screws remains instantly recognizable, while the famous Petite Tapisserie dial texture and vertical satin finishing directly reference the original Gérald Genta-designed icon.
Why Is It Different?
The biggest surprise surrounding the Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop is how far the collaboration moves away from the MoonSwatch formula.
The Omega × Swatch MoonSwatch succeeded because it offered an accessible interpretation of the Speedmaster Moonwatch. The Blancpain × Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms brought mechanical dive watches into a more approachable and colorful segment.
The Royal Pop takes a completely different direction. Instead of attempting to recreate the Royal Oak as an affordable wristwatch, Audemars Piguet and Swatch embraced experimentation. The collection transforms the Royal Oak into a wearable object somewhere between a watch, fashion accessory, and design piece.

That decision makes the collaboration significantly riskier, but also arguably much more original. The Royal Pop feels intentionally provocative. It fully embraces bold colors, exaggerated contrasts, and playful aesthetics in a way that feels closely connected to Swatch’s historical identity while still respecting the Royal Oak’s unmistakable silhouette.

Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop Models
The Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop collection consists of eight different references. The number eight itself references the Royal Oak’s octagonal bezel and its eight signature screws.

Six models use a traditional Lépine-style pocket watch layout with the crown positioned at 12 o’clock and a simple two-hand display. Two additional models adopt a Savonnette-style configuration with the crown at 3 o’clock and a small seconds display at 6 o’clock.
OTTO ROSSO
The OTTO ROSSO model perfectly captures the energetic spirit of Pop Art. Featuring a pink case combined with a cherry-red bezel, it delivers one of the boldest monochromatic looks in the collection.

HUIT BLANC
HUIT BLANC will likely become one of the most recognizable models in the Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop collection thanks to its multicolored bezel screws. The clean white case acts almost like a blank canvas that allows the colorful accents to stand out dramatically. It is easily one of the most artistic and visually disruptive models in the lineup.

GREEN EIGHT
GREEN EIGHT adopts a fresher and more futuristic aesthetic by combining multiple shades of green throughout the case, bezel, and lanyard. The contrast between darker and lighter tones creates visual depth while maintaining the playful identity of the collaboration.

BLAUE ACHT
BLAUE ACHT may be the most experimental-looking watch in the entire collection. The lime-green case paired with light-blue accents feels heavily inspired by vintage Swatch designs from the 1990s. It fully embraces the loud and unconventional side of Pop Art aesthetics.

ORENJI HACHI
ORENJI HACHI offers one of the strongest contrasts within the collection thanks to its deep navy base combined with bright orange accents. The result feels sportier and slightly more aggressive than the other references while still preserving the playful DNA of the Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop.

LAN BA
LAN BA is one of the two Savonnette-style models featuring a small seconds display at 6 o’clock. Different shades of blue give the watch a cleaner and more elegant appearance compared to some of the louder references in the collection. The additional small seconds complication also adds a more traditional mechanical feeling.

OCHO NEGRO
OCHO NEGRO delivers the most monochromatic interpretation of the Royal Pop concept. The black-and-white combination creates a more graphic and modern aesthetic while still preserving the distinctive Royal Oak-inspired case architecture.

OTG ROZ
OTG ROZ is undoubtedly the wildest watch in the collection. Combining teal, yellow, and pink tones with a vibrant small seconds display, it fully embraces the chaotic and artistic nature of Pop Art. It is impossible to ignore and perfectly reflects the experimental direction of the collaboration.

The New Manual-Wind SISTEM51 Movement
One of the biggest technical surprises inside the Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop collection is the introduction of a new hand-wound version of Swatch’s SISTEM51 movement.
This new caliber includes 15 active patents and represents the first manual-wind SISTEM51 movement ever released. The movement still maintains the industrial innovation that made SISTEM51 famous, including fully automated Swiss assembly and laser-regulated factory precision.

The caliber delivers more than 90 hours of power reserve and incorporates an anti-magnetic Nivachron balance spring developed in collaboration with Audemars Piguet.
Through the transparent sapphire caseback, the movement reveals colorful Pop Art-inspired decoration as well as an unusual functional detail integrated directly into the barrel.
When the barrel chambers appear gray, the mainspring remains visible, indicating that the watch requires winding. When the chambers become gold, the mainspring is fully compressed, signaling maximum power reserve.

Bioceramic Construction and Royal Oak Details
The entire Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop collection uses Swatch’s proprietary Bioceramic material, composed of ceramic powder combined with bio-sourced material derived from castor oil.
The watches feature sapphire crystals on both the front and rear sides of the case with anti-reflective coating for improved scratch resistance and visibility.
Despite the playful positioning of the collection, the finishing includes several details directly inspired by the Royal Oak, including vertically satin-finished bezels, visible hexagonal screws, and textured Tapisserie-style dials.
The watch itself measures 40mm in diameter and only 8.4mm in thickness without the clip system attached.

The Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop may become one of the most divisive Swatch collaborations yet, but it is also arguably the most creative. Instead of simply repeating an already successful formula, the project embraces experimentation, color, humor, and unconventional design in a way that feels genuinely fresh within modern watchmaking.
