Baume & Mercier Celebrates The Gran Premio Storico d’Italia With Two Limited Editions
Two limited editions bring the spirit of the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia to the Riviera and Classima collections, combining racing heritage with contrasting expressions of Swiss watchmaking.
From 2 to 4 October 2026, the Mugello Circuit will become a meeting point for historic racing machinery, collectors and enthusiasts during the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia. As Official Timekeeper of the event, Baume & Mercier marks the occasion with two limited-edition watches: the Riviera 10897 and Classima 10898. Although they share the same connection to the event, the two models approach that heritage from very different perspectives.

Two Watches, One Racing Heritage
The partnership between Baume & Mercier and the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia brings together two ideas closely connected to mechanical watchmaking and historic motorsport: precision and the preservation of heritage. Organized by HVM Racing in collaboration with Ferrari Corse Clienti, the event at Mugello will bring together iconic cars, legendary drivers, collectors and enthusiasts.
The Riviera 10897 and Classima 10898 translate that setting into two distinct designs. The Riviera adopts a more technical and expressive approach, using its dodecagonal architecture and chronograph display to emphasize the energy of the circuit. The Classima takes the opposite direction, retaining the collection’s traditional elegance while introducing smaller racing references through colour and detailing.
Riviera 10897: Racing Spirit In Steel
The Riviera 10897 is the sportier of the two editions, immediately identifiable by the collection’s characteristic dodecagonal case. Measuring 41 mm in diameter, the stainless-steel case combines polished and satin-finished surfaces, while the opaline white dial introduces the colours associated with the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia.
Green snailed counters and a green snailed minute track contrast with vivid red chronograph hands, creating a graphic composition that gives the watch a distinctly motorsport-inspired character. The dial also carries the “Official Timekeeper GPSI” marking, directly identifying its connection to the event.
Inside, the Riviera 10897 is powered by the automatic Valjoux 7753. The movement operates at 4 Hz and provides a 48-hour power reserve, while the display combines hours, minutes, small seconds, a chronograph and a date indication positioned at 4:30. White Super-LumiNova on the hands and indexes maintains legibility in lower-light conditions.
The watch is completed by an integrated black rubber strap with canvas decoration. Baume & Mercier’s fast strap interchangeability system allows the strap to be changed without tools, while a triple-folding stainless-steel buckle provides the final connection to the wrist. Water resistance is rated at 100 metres.

Classima 10898: Classicism With A Racing Accent
The Classima 10898 takes a considerably more restrained approach. Its polished stainless-steel case measures 42 mm across but is only 6.2 mm thick, giving the watch a noticeably slimmer profile than its Riviera counterpart.
Its black sunray satin-finished dial follows the classical language of the Classima collection, with rhodium-plated Roman numerals, indexes and leaf-shaped hands. The main motorsport reference is deliberately small: the number “60” appears in red on the white minute track, adding a single contrasting detail to an otherwise traditional composition.
The Gran Premio Storico d’Italia connection continues on the case back, which is personalized for the event. A black calfskin strap with a carbon-effect finish introduces another reference to racing materials, while red edges and red stitching echo the colour used on the dial.
Unlike the automatic Riviera, the Classima 10898 is powered by the quartz ETA F06.115 movement, offering an autonomy of approximately four years. The watch displays hours, minutes and the date at 3 o’clock, and is water-resistant to 50 metres.
