SpaceOne x BALTIC Seconde Majeure: A Parisian Incident in Independent Watchmaking

A friendship-driven collaboration redefining how time is displayed through a deconstructed mechanical system

SpaceOne x BALTIC Seconde Majeure, a limited-edition independent watch project created in collaboration between Théo Auffret and Guillaume Laidet.

Shaped in Paris through friendship and shared creative curiosity, the project brings together SpaceOne’s futuristic, deconstructed approach to time and BALTIC Watches’ refined interpretation of vintage-inspired design. Rather than merging two identities, the Seconde Majeure introduces a new way of reading time, defined by mechanical innovation, vertical display architecture and a deeply personal collaboration behind its creation.

Sales open on May 12, 2026, and close on May 17, 2026. Production is strictly limited to the number of orders placed within this six-day window, with each piece individually numbered on the caseback.

Born from two opposing horological philosophies, the Seconde Majeure sits between Baltic’s vintage-inspired craftsmanship and SpaceOne’s experimental vision of time.

A Parisian Incident: Two Opposing Watchmaking Worlds

The project is rooted not in strategy, but in friendship.

Although BALTIC Watches and SpaceOne follow completely different design philosophies, the Seconde Majeure emerges from a personal connection established in 2021 at Baltic’s headquarters in Paris.

That meeting brought together watchmakers and creators including Etienne Malec and Jas Rewkiewicz alongside independent watchmakers, marking the beginning of a creative relationship that eventually led to SpaceOne. Five years later, that friendship becomes mechanical form.

Deconstructed Time Display System

The Seconde Majeure introduces a fully reimagined way of reading time. Instead of traditional hands, the watch uses sapphire discs to display hours and minutes in a vertical layout. Hours are positioned at 12 o’clock, while minutes are displayed at 6 o’clock, both aligned with a central arrow-ended crosshair.

A large central seconds hand moves continuously above the dial, creating constant motion and defining the visual identity of the watch.

This system transforms time into a layered visual mechanism rather than a conventional dial.

Jumping-Hour Mechanical Architecture

At the core of the Seconde Majeure is a jumping-hour complication module developed by Théo Auffret.

The system is built around three visible mechanical elements: a central control wheel that completes a full rotation every 60 minutes, a 12-tooth star wheel corresponding to the hours, and a jumper spring that maintains tension and triggers the instantaneous hour change.

As the minute disc completes its cycle, energy is transferred through the system, causing the hour disc to “jump” precisely into place. The dial is cut from a single piece of maillechort, acting both as a structural plate and decorative surface, supporting the entire module.

Exclusive Hand-Finished Dials

The Seconde Majeure is offered in two dial executions: brushed and Charbonné.

The Charbonné finish is entirely hand-executed in the atelier of Théo Auffret, requiring up to three hours of artisanal work per piece. This process ensures that no two watches are identical.

Both versions highlight the raw mechanical nature of the watch while preserving refined visual contrast between industrial finishing and artisanal detailing.

A Completely New Case Design

The watch is housed in a newly developed 38.5mm case made of 904L stainless steel.

The mid-case, lugs, and caseback are brushed, while a polished concave bezel introduces contrast and depth. The same geometry is mirrored in the lugs, which are arched and low-profile to ensure a natural fit on the wrist.

The watch is paired with a beige Alcantara® strap developed by Delugs, featuring curved spring bars that allow the case and strap to integrate seamlessly around the wrist.

Limited Production and Availability

The Seconde Majeure is available only during a strict pre-order window from May 12 to May 17, 2026.

Each watch is individually numbered on the caseback, and total production is determined exclusively by the number of orders received during this period. Once the window closes, production ends permanently.
