Oris Kelp Forest Limited Edition: Aquis Date Inspired By The Ocean
A New 1,000-Piece Edition Combines An Ocean-Green Dial With Oris’ Ongoing Commitment To Marine Conservation.
Oris returns to ocean conservation with the Kelp Forest Limited Edition, a new interpretation of the Aquis Date 41.50 mm dive watch inspired by the beauty and ecological importance of underwater kelp forests. Limited to 1,000 pieces, the new model combines the familiar architecture of the Aquis Date with a distinctive green dial designed to evoke kelp moving with underwater currents.
The launch continues Oris’ long-standing efforts to raise awareness of marine conservation. Developed following conversations with underwater photographer and Oris ambassador Francis Pérez, the watch brings attention to the decline of kelp forests and the role these ecosystems play in supporting marine life and helping to mitigate climate change.

A Dial Inspired By Kelp Forests
The defining feature of the Kelp Forest Limited Edition is its ocean-green dial. Oris has used a three-dimensional printed surface finish to create texture and variations of green and gold inspired by the appearance of kelp forests underwater.
The result is a dial designed to evoke the slow movement of giant kelp as it sways in ocean currents. The effect is complemented by golden outlines around the luminous hands and hour markers, reinforcing the relationship between the watch’s design and its natural inspiration.
The case back also features a special kelp engraving alongside the individual limited-edition number, giving the watch another visual connection to the ecosystem that inspired it.

The Oris Aquis Date Platform
The new edition is based on the Aquis Date 41.50 mm, a high-performance dive watch. Its multi-piece stainless-steel case measures 41.50 mm in diameter and 12.90 mm in thickness, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 49.00 mm.
A unidirectional rotating bezel with a green ceramic insert and minute scale supports dive timing. The watch also features a screw-in security crown with protection and a sapphire crystal domed on both sides, with anti-reflective coating on the inside.
Water resistance reaches 30 bar, equivalent to 300 metres, reinforcing the model’s diving credentials. The stainless-steel bracelet combines brushed and polished surfaces and is equipped with a folding clasp featuring quick-adjust and quick-change systems.

Automatic Calibre 733
Inside the case is the Oris Calibre 733, a Swiss-made automatic movement providing central hours, minutes and seconds, together with a date display.
The date function includes an instantaneous date, date corrector, fine-timing device and stop-second function. The movement offers a power reserve of 41 hours.
These specifications remain consistent with the Aquis Date platform, allowing the Kelp Forest Limited Edition to distinguish itself primarily through its dial design, special engravings and conservation-focused story.

Why Kelp Forests Matter
Kelp forests are underwater ecosystems formed by dense growths of large marine algae. They provide food and shelter for fish, invertebrates and marine mammals, while also absorbing carbon and contributing to the production of oxygen.
Despite their ecological importance, these habitats face growing pressure from rising ocean temperatures and harvesting. The Oris press material highlights significant losses in some regions, including kelp forests off the north-western coast of Spain and the coast of California.
The issue is central to the new watch’s concept. Rather than treating the green dial as a purely aesthetic choice, Oris uses it to draw attention to an ecosystem that remains less familiar to many people than coral reefs, despite its importance to marine biodiversity.

Francis Pérez And Oris’ Conservation Mission
The Kelp Forest Limited Edition was conceived after discussions between Oris and Francis Pérez, an award-winning underwater photographer from Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands. With more than 30 years of diving experience and around 25 years photographing the oceans, Pérez has witnessed changes in marine environments throughout his career.
His relationship with Oris dates back to 2015, when he was invited to take underwater photographs for the launch of the El Hierro Limited Edition. He subsequently became an ambassador for the brand and has continued to help communicate the importance of ocean conservation.
For Pérez, raising awareness is an essential first step. Supporting organisations working to protect kelp forests, sharing scientific information and making more responsible consumer choices are among the actions that can help bring attention to the problem.
The Kelp Forest Limited Edition continues Oris’ broader approach of using special watches to support awareness of environmental challenges. Its significance therefore extends beyond its limited production run, linking the Aquis Date to a conservation story centred on the health of the world’s oceans.
Price And Availability
The Oris Kelp Forest Limited Edition is limited to 1,000 pieces and has a Swiss retail price of CHF 2,450, according to the press material. The release lists its availability as October 2026.
With its textured green dial, ceramic bezel insert and 300-metre water resistance, the new edition offers a distinctive take on the Aquis Date while bringing attention to the threatened underwater forests that inspired its design.
