AVI-8 Harrier Pegasus Limited Edition Marks 60 Years Of The Jump Jet
Sixty years after the Harrier’s first flight, AVI-8 celebrates the iconic jump jet with a limited-edition automatic watch inspired by its distinctive Pegasus engine.
The AVI-8 Harrier Pegasus Limited Edition marks six decades since the first pre-production Harrier took to the skies, translating one of the aircraft’s most distinctive technical features into the centrepiece of a mechanical watch. Limited to 500 individually numbered pieces, the new model takes its inspiration from the Pegasus engine and its ability to give the Harrier its famous vertical take-off and landing capability.

On 31 August 1966, the first pre-production Harrier made its maiden flight from Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey. The airfield was not only where the aircraft was tested and assembled, but also gives this particular edition its variant name, Dunsfold. What made the Harrier different from conventional military aircraft was its Pegasus vectored-thrust turbofan, whose rotating nozzles allowed the aircraft to take off and land vertically, hover in place and operate without requiring a conventional runway.
For AVI-8, that engine became the natural starting point for the watch. Rather than simply decorating the dial with aviation references, the brand has attempted to translate the Pegasus into a functional visual element, using a spinning small-seconds display at the centre of the dial to evoke the turbine itself.

The Pegasus Becomes The Dial’s Focal Point
The most distinctive feature of the watch is therefore its running-seconds display. Positioned prominently within the dial, the rotating element is designed to resemble the turbine of the Pegasus engine, giving the small-seconds indication a direct connection to the aircraft that inspired the watch.

This approach gives the dial a sense of movement even when the rest of the display remains relatively traditional. Central hours and minutes provide the primary time indication, while the turbine-inspired small seconds adds a mechanical point of interest and the 24-hour indicator reinforces the aviation character.
The dial itself is finished in matte black brass, providing a restrained background for the various aviation-inspired elements. Grey printed indexes create contrast without overpowering the central turbine, while Swiss-origin lume is applied to support legibility when ambient light fades.
The result is deliberately more instrumental than decorative. The watch references the Harrier through its display architecture rather than simply relying on aircraft imagery.

A Gunmetal 44mm Case
The Harrier Pegasus is housed in a 44 mm stainless-steel case finished in gunmetal. Measuring 52 mm from lug to lug and 15.9 mm thick, it has a substantial presence on the wrist that is consistent with the aviation-inspired character of the design.

A single-curve sapphire crystal sits above the dial and receives anti-reflective treatment. AVI-8 has also incorporated a discreet laser-etched detail on the underside of the crystal, adding another element that becomes visible from certain angles without interrupting the overall dial design.
The case is completed by a screw-down caseback engraved with the Harrier Pegasus turbine. This gives the aircraft’s defining technical feature a second appearance on the watch, this time on the reverse rather than the dial.
Water resistance is rated at 5 ATM, giving the watch everyday resistance while maintaining its primary identity as an aviation-themed mechanical piece.

The Aviation Details Continue
The watch keeps its aviation inspiration relatively focused. Instead of covering the dial with aircraft graphics, AVI-8 uses the Harrier’s technology as the central design language.
The grey indexes, black dial and gunmetal case create a monochromatic foundation, while the rotating turbine display provides the most obvious visual reference to the Pegasus. The 24-hour indication is another familiar aviation cue, adding a second time-related scale without complicating the primary display.
The strap follows the same restrained approach. A black genuine leather strap is fitted to the case and secured with a solid buckle, giving the watch a traditional pilot-watch connection while keeping attention on the unusual dial.

Japanese Automatic Movement
Powering the AVI-8 Harrier Pegasus is the Japanese automatic M-MIY-8247 movement. The calibre drives central hours and minutes, the small-seconds turbine display and the 24-hour indication.
The movement is therefore integral to the concept of the watch. The small-seconds display is not simply a printed reference to the Pegasus: it is driven as part of the mechanical timekeeping display, allowing the turbine-inspired element to remain in motion on the wrist.
AVI-8 keeps the movement specification relatively straightforward, focusing the watch on the visual translation of the Harrier rather than adding additional complications.
Sixty Years Of The Jump Jet
The timing of the release gives the watch its strongest historical connection. The first pre-production Harrier flew in 1966, and the new AVI-8 edition arrives 60 years later as a numbered tribute to an aircraft whose engineering was defined by a very unusual solution to vertical flight.
The Pegasus engine was central to that identity. Its vectored thrust allowed the Harrier to perform operations that conventional runway-dependent aircraft could not, and it remains the most recognisable technical feature behind the “jump jet” concept.
AVI-8’s approach is to make that engine the visual heart of the watch. The rotating small-seconds display gives the Pegasus turbine an active role rather than treating it simply as a graphic motif, while the engraved caseback reinforces the connection from the opposite side.
A Limited Tribute To The Harrier
The AVI-8 Harrier Pegasus Automatic 60th Anniversary Limited Edition will be limited to 500 individually numbered pieces. It launches on 16 October 2026 with a recommended retail price of US$425.
With its 44 mm gunmetal case, matte black dial, aviation-inspired 24-hour indication and, most importantly, its rotating Pegasus turbine-inspired small seconds, the watch takes a very specific part of Harrier history and places it at the centre of the design.
Sixty years after the first Harrier left Dunsfold Aerodrome, the aircraft’s defining engine becomes the moving element of a mechanical watch — a fitting way for AVI-8 to mark six decades of the original jump jet.
